Tips for you...  Links to follow

Here you will find Tips and Tricks - These will be changed periodically, and possibly re-used at a later time.

We will show tips to help you in your computer needs and ways to be safe, some virus alerts as they come out.

Check here often to see what's going on.

1

Being safe with Windows ©

Create another user on your computer and give it standard / normal user rights!  That will reduce the chances of getting a virus or malware because this user does NOT have administrator rights.  When you need to install a printer or software, you log in as the admin account.  This keeps unwanted software from being installed.

2

Update your anti-virus databases periodically

Unfortunately, Viruses and malicious software are written and distributed every day.  The best defense is to keep your A/V software definition tables up tp date!

3

Change your passwords periodically

It is good practice to change your passwords for all online websites often.  Especially banking, and social media sites such as Facebook©.  We can also give great pointers on awesome passwords and how to remember them.

4

SAVE often!

After writing a paragraph, editing a photo, or any work, get in the habit of saving often!  The less you lose, the easier it will be to continue after any loss.

 UPDATE:

WARNING! There is a nasty bug out there.  It is called "ransomeware"  Anti-Virus Applications do not detect this type, and it is usually sent through E-mail.  Be very careful which e-mails you open.

The little script will encrypt ALL of yoour "Documents" (Pictures, Documents, Music, etc) anything besides the Windows operating system files, which is also why Anti-Virus Apps do not dtetect this.

The publisher will request money through "Bit-Coins" and ask for a lot of money to send you the KEY to un-encrypt your files.  Niether I, nor anyone else is able to decrypt the files for you without that key.

I have been told that even if you were to pay them, you still do not get your files back.

The rememdy:  SAVE OFTEN but, Save everything to an external drive such as a large Hard Disc, or Flash drive.  Then Disconnect that drive from all computers, and networks.  Meaning, shut it off, put in a safe place.  The 'Bug' searches all connected drive shares, and network-mapped drives, and then encrypts them as well.  This includes online cloud storage, such as Dropbox© .

So again - SAVE TO AN EXTERNAL DEVICE AND THEN UNPLUG THAT DEVICE AND STORE OFFLINE.
